Finding Beauty Through Paper Embroidery🧵 — Meet jtmm37

Paper, thread, and a world of color. 🧵✚ Japanese artist @jtmm37 began paper embroidery in November 2020. After facing significant health challenges and physical limitations, she started looking for something she could enjoy and create at home. That search led her to paper embroidery. She says she was drawn into its beautiful world, and creating these pieces gave her an unexpected sense of confidence — a feeling that she, too, could remain connected to something beautiful. Interestingly, sewing used to be something she wasn’t very good at. But she has always loved coloring, and paper embroidery came to feel almost like coloring with thread. That may be one reason the craft felt so natural to her. Today, she creates paper embroidery and works combining paper with botanical elements, carefully building each piece with thread, texture, color, and small details. 🍃 Even the name jtmm carries a personal story. It comes from the way her daughter pronounced her own full name when she was very young: “じったんも.” “jt” represents jittan, while “mm” represents mama — giving the name the meaning of “Jittan’s mom.” What began as something she could do at home has grown into a creative practice she loves, as well as a source of new connections with others. At Peppaca, we love discovering the stories behind handmade work — not only what someone creates, but also what creating can bring into a person’s life. Have you ever found a craft or creative activity that brought something unexpected into your life? Artist: @jtmm37 Instaglam post here

Meet the Artistry: Freshwater Pearls & Floral Whimsy 🌞

I am so proud to feature this stunning Freshwater Pearl and Blue Flower piece from one of the talented creators in our community. What I love about this piece is the juxtaposition—the organic, irregular beauty of the pearls paired with the delicate precision of the blue flower. It’s a perfect example of the kind of craftsmanship we celebrate here on Peppaca. When you wear this, you aren’t just wearing jewelry; you’re supporting a real person’s vision and skill. 🌿The Warmth You Can’t See in a Photo — Kokeshi by Julie and Her Handcrafted Kokeshi

🌿 The Warmth You Can’t See in a Photo — Kokeshi by Julie and Her Handcrafted Kokeshi We’ve shared Julie’s beautiful kokeshi work on Peppaca’s Instagram before, so I had already seen her creations many times through photos and videos. Recently, I had the chance to see and hold one of her kokeshi in person. ✹ What surprised me most was just how expressive it was. The colors were even more beautiful in person, and somehow, I could feel the natural warmth of the wood through its little expression. It had much more character than I had expected from seeing it on a screen. It reminded me that handmade work can feel completely different when you experience it in person. The texture of the material, the small painted details, and even the expression can communicate something that a photograph can’t fully capture. 🛍 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐚𝐰, 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐊 𝐊𝐚𝐀𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐢 𝐛𝐲 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐚. WovenbyCielo

INTRODUCTION

Hi everyone! 👋🏜 I’m Cielo, the maker behind WovenbyCielo. I create original crochet designs, from amigurumi and character-inspired pieces to handmade bags and custom creations. One of my recent makes is this crochet character bag. I love turning simple yarn into something with personality, especially when I can design the details from scratch. I’m excited to be here, meet other makers, and see what everyone is creating. There’s something really special about seeing the skill and creativity that goes into handmade work. Here’s to sharing what my hands have made!

Artist Showcase: Kukka Tanssi — Little Stories Tufted in Yarn

Today we’re bringing one of our Instagram collaboration posts into the Peppaca Forum conversation. Kukka Tanssi, meaning “flower dance,” creates handmade rugs using the tufting technique — almost like painting with yarn. Each piece feels like a small story brought into everyday life. The artist hopes that the place where the rug is placed can become a little more special for the person who welcomes it. In our Instagram collaboration post, we shared one of Kukka Tanssi’s small tufted fox pieces. It is a quiet work with a story-like feeling — the kind of piece that makes you want to imagine what is happening just beyond the frame. See the original Instagram collaboration post Please check our artwork from a Japanese artist @kukka_tanssi We would love to hear from @kukka_tanssi: What part of the process did you enjoy most when creating this piece or this series? And to everyone in the community — what kind of story do you imagine when you see this work?
